A funny thing happened on my way to the forum...

I get asked by friends, family and sometimes even random strangers, "What is it that you actually do?". Well, that's a tough question to actually answer with a straight face. The real answer is that I do alot of things. My "JOB" is generally a User Interface Engineer, Project Manager, or both. What I do is something totally different. While I do my job, I also am also a Photoshop artist, video editor, audio engineer, IT Professional, golf club salesman, and chief bottle washer (not cook, that's my wife) in my house. I am also a part-time BMW mechanic, terrible dresser, and a decent golfer by most standards.

While I am usually hired for one specific skill, I have historically become a ”jack of all trades”, quickly adapting to bring those skills to the project or organization that promote and assure excellent results. I excel in dynamic, deadline driven team environments; rapidly and astutely identifying requirements and implementing proven best practices to optimize the efforts of the team and resulting product.

UI Design, Documentation and Development

Most recently, my jobs have fallen under this category. Highly skilled in most graphics applications and on a never ending quest for knowledge that leads to better usability in the web application arena, this category is one that I excel at.

Development using the latest technology is a passion for me. While the average person is reading the latest John Grisham novels, my bedside reading consists of the latest in books and articles about how people are utilizing cutting-edge technology. I am constantly developing personal projects using these technologies with the sole purpose of understanding how they are best applied and, of course, the sheer joy of learning. While I do have technologies that I favor, I am always open to learning something new.

Over ten years working with the Adobe Master Collection, including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, Flash and others, I have learned many ways to work quickly and effectively to accomplish many tasks with extreme efficiency.

Project Management

I have a background in Project Management that has proven valuable to any team I have worked with. Historically, I have been a staff Project Manager under contract with KnowledgeSpan in Atlanta, GA and managed five independent projects and three development teams. While I possess no formal training or certification in the field, driving a team to the completion of a project is something I excel at.

Most recently I have been managing a team of up to eleven developers residing both in the United States and Vietnam. Dealing with communication issues has been a specialty of mine and developing processes to better communicate with a project team is a skill that I honed using a traditional “trial-by-fire” method. Overall, my methods have proven to be successful with quick and effective implementation.
